Schools urged to protect children from sexual crimes

The Directorate of Education of Delhi has strictly asked heads of all government-aided and recognised but unaided schools to comply with the 'Protection of Children from Sexual offences Rules, 2012.'
According to the circular issued on Monday by the Directorate of Education 'The Gazette of all India (extraordinary) on 14 November, 2012 issued by Ministry of Women and Child Development named 'Protection of Children from Sexual offences Rules, 2012.'
The DoE also want teachers, management and all other employees of the education system to be made aware about the provisions of the act.
Sources from the DoE informed that 'If Sexual crime is committed by persons who are in the ownership, management of staff of educational institutions and persons in positions of trust and authority over children, they are liable for higher punishment.
Senior officials in the government said that ‘Awareness of the provisions of this act will prevent such acts being committed against children and enable timely action to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation.'
