The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has ‘strictly’ asked school principals to organise excursions for students which are related curriculum of the course.
It has also issued safety guidelines to be followed by schools during a study tour. A circular was issued to all schools, affiliated with it across the country.
‘The head of the institution should ensure that the tour is for the benefit of students and is related to the curriculum of the course in which such students are enrolled,’ said the first of 11 instructions on the circular.
The circular also said that schools must inform the local authority before going on study tours at places like power plants, dam, sea, beaches, etc.
‘A written communication must be made to the District Magistrate or concerned authorities before taking students out on such trips. Most importantly, if study tour comprises of more than 10 students one local tour operator must be hired,’ said Vineet Joshi, chairman of CBSE. The CBSE also clarified that a senior lady teacher will also accompany students on tours. It has also made mandatory a small briefing session for teachers, students and parents informing them about their roles and responsibilities, before going on any tours.
An orientation in the area of team-spirit, discipline, manners and behavior, geographical knowledge of the area to be visited and safety measures must be provided before tour.
