Schools in Noida, Ghaziabad increase fee adhoc, officials admit to lack of guidelines

In the absence of any rule or guideline to regulate the admission process and the fee structure in Noida and Ghaziabad schools, the administration has shown its helplessness to rein in the school management. The senior officers of the administration and education department have admitted openly their inability to take any action against these public schools, but assured the agitating parents solution through dialogues.

'There are no rules or guidelines regarding admission or fee hike from Uttar Pradesh government. We will mediate between the management and the parents to find a solution. A meeting with some public schools is scheduled on Thursday,' said S V S Rangarao, District Magistrate of Ghaziabad.

Hundreds of parents protesting against steep fee hike handed over a memorandum to DM and also to the Mayor of Ghaziabad Teluram Kamboj. The parents have now joined together to protest against the school managements in Ghaziabad. According to the parents, the school managements have hiked admission and monthly fee by over 30 per cent which is unjustified. Further, they demand fee in quarters which is difficult to pay.

'The fee for the first quarter was increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000 and the admission fee for next class in the same school was also increased by Rs 10,000 - Rs 12,000,' said Sarita Chaudhary. Her daughter passed Class XIII in Indirapuram Public School and is seeking admission in Class IX in the same school but the management is demanding Rs 28,000 as admission fee. The previous year, alleged Chaudhary, it was Rs 16,000.

'These public schools are affiliated to CBSE and don't pay heed to our instructions,' said a senior officer of education department in Ghaziabad.

The protests by parent association are also being orgainsed in Noida.

'They are charging fee on their whims and fancies. We have protested several times and even launched a signature campaign but of no use as officers show their helplessness to rein in these public schools,' said Anoop Khanna, president of Guardians Association in Noida. The protest may intensify in coming days as members of RWAs and other associations have extended their support to the movement.
