School teacher killed as car rams into auto-rickshaw

The incident took place at around 6 am near Shahdara flyover when a speeding car, coming from Welcome area collided with an auto-rickshaw in which five persons were sitting. The driver of the car, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police, was reported to be over-speeding on a narrow road and hence lost his control over his vehicle.

After the accident took place, the driver was trying to escape from the spot, but was nabbed by locals. He was later handed over to police.

According to police, the road is one way but due to metro construction in the area, vehicles from both sides ply on it.

The accident took place near the police station. The police  team reached the spot on time and rushed all the victims to the nearby Guru Teg Bahadur hospital. One of the injured person, later identified as Ramesh Kumar (44) was declared dead on arrival. The other victims are undergoing treatment at the hospital and have been identified as Dinesh (50), Ravi (40), Rajinder (28) and Kamal (37).

During the investigation it was learnt that Kumar was a teacher at a private school in Green Park in South Delhi. He was on his way to school when the accident took place. ‘He was the only bread earner of the family that resides in Shahdara area’, said an investigating officer on the condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, the car and the auto-rickshaw, involved in the accident have been seized by the police. 
A case has also been filed at Shahadara police station against the errant driver of Accent car.
