School principal lands in cop net for swindling over Rs 27 L

A Delhi government school principal has been arrested on the charges of financial irregularities to the tune of over Rs 27 lakh, an official said on Monday. The principal is charged for embezzling funds meant for scholarships, uniforms and books.

Ashok Kumar Singh, the principal of Senior Secondary School at Sultanpuri has been arrested and an FIR registered against him by the Anti Corruption Branch after a complaint by a senior official of the Vigilance Department of Directorate of Education. He has been charged of embezzling Rs 27,35,870.

“The investigations have revealed that the said principal embezzled the funds meant for the various students’ welfare schemes like subsidy for uniform, free text books, welfare of educationally backward minority students and Lal Bahadur Shahstri Scholarship among others,” said an official of the education department.

“These funds are meant to be distributed to all the eligible students. He abused his official position as the Head of School (HOS) & Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO),” said an education department official.

The investigation further showed that the principal delayed the distribution of funds in 2011-12 and 2012-13 meant for various students welfare schemes, though the money was withdrawn well in time. He kept the fund under his personal custody for a long period beyond the financial year applicable without any reasonable ground.
