In a two day-conference, leaders from 72 schools across nine states shared their views that for engaging learners, one needed engaging tools such as videos, online demonstrations and experiments.
The principals and promoters of these schools examined the challenges posed by the ever-changing demands in school education.
Principal of Ahlcon International School, Ashok Kumar Pandey, initiated the discussion, putting forth the point that to be a successful leader one needed to keep alive the spirit of enquiry and expectation among the pupils.
He said, “In a haste to achieve the set goals, one was losing on the value systems”. Explaining the dimensions of positioning in leadership, he said that school leaders should do brand revitalisation.
Ruchira Ghosh, director of South Asia, Cambridge International Examinations, said in order to help students become globally competent, teachers must have knowledge of international dimensions of their subject and be empowered with more tools to engage learners.
“The learners should be taught the art of asking questions and thinking activities should be made tangible by encouraging the learners to answer open ended questions,” she said.
Arunabh Singh of TheSchoolConf explained the power of social media, which is frequently visited by the parent and student community and the need for the schools to tap this medium to survive and secure their place in the future scenario.
Rita Kapur, Director Gyanshree, illustrated the need for school leaders to change their vision with the times to match the call of future. She focused on the expectations of 21st century learners and how best possible learning experiences could be given to them.
