SC to monitor riot cases

The Supreme Court on Thursday said that it will continue to monitor the probe into the Muzaffarnagar riots and relief and rehabilitation work till the end. The court also directed for transfer of a public interest litigation pending in the Allahabad high court to the apex court and asked the UP government to file report on reparative measures taken by it in the violence-hit areas.

A bench consisting of Chief Justice P Sathasivam as well as Justices Ranjana Prakash Desai and Ranjan Gogoi said that the court was aware about the prevailing situation and would pass the direction, if required. During the hearing in the case, the UPA government at the centre and Samajwadi Party-led government in the state were seen supporting each other. The central government told the court that it’s committed to provide all assistance to the state government.
