The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear a plea of Nupur and Rajesh Talwar for calling 14 witnesses to record their statements in the trial court. A bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir posted the matter for Friday.
The couple, accused of killing daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, had moved the apex court challenging the order of the special CBI court rejecting their plea for calling 14 other witnesses, including the then CBI joint director Arun Kumar, to record their statements.
Aarushi was found dead with her throat slit in her bedroom on 16 May, 2008. Domestic help Hemraj was the initial suspect, but his body was found at the terrace of Talwar's residence in Jalvayu Vihar in Noida.
The statement of the CBI investigating officer AGL Kaul, the last prosecution witness, has already been recorded.
In his deposition before the additional judge, Kaul, who headed the CBI probe, had told the court that their investigations had revealed no evidence of any third person's entry in the house.
Earlier, the CBI had countered the plea of the dentist couple in the trial court in which they had sought deposition of former CBI joint director Arun Kumar as court witness, saying claims made in a press conference by the officer during the on-going probe cannot be termed as his final views.
Kumar had claimed that Talwars' daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj were murdered by servants.
