SC issues notice to govt on N-plant damage payments

The SC on Thursday issued notices to the central government and the department of atomic energy on a petition alleging exemption to the Russian company from paying damages in case of an accident in the setting up of Kudankulam nuclear power plant.
A bench comprising of of Justice K S Radhakrishanan and Justice Deepak Misra agreed to look into the liability aspect of the plant and asked the government to file its response within three weeks. This bench has been hearing various pleas pertaining to environment, safety and security issues of the plant. The bench also said that the earlier petitions challenging constitutional validity of the nuclear liability law be tagged and heard along with the n-plant issues.
