SC issues notice to Centre, states on pollution in Ganga

The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Centre and states of Uttrakhand, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bangal on a PIL seeking its direction to prohibit them from throwing waste material from factories into river Ganga. A bench headed by chief justice P Sathasivam also sought the response of Central Pollution Control Board. The court passed the order on the PIL filed by a resident of Patiala, seeking its interference in the matter to protect Ganga from getting polluted.
