Say no to insecticides

I see lot of donkeys carrying overloaded weight. Is it not cruelty to those poor creatures?

Donkeys are commonly abused by being overloaded. If you look under their straps you will see bloody abscesses all over their bodies. Once they fall ill or break a limb they are abandoned. Old, handicapped, malnourished, abandoned, dying donkeys are a common sight. Beating, kicking, over riding, over driving, over loading amounts to cruelty under section 11 of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (PCA Act, 1960) and the Please see The Prevention of Cruelty to Draught and Pack Animals Rules, 1965. Use the law by complaining to the nearest police station and lodge an FIR under section 11 of PCA Act. If you see a severely injured donkey  use section 429 of IPC, 1860.

When do rabbits have excess urine and excess thirst?
The normal water intake for rabbits is 50-150 mL/kg body weight daily. Rabbits that are fed large amounts of water-containing foods, such as leafy vegetables, will drink less water than those that are on a dry diet of hay and pellets. Normal urine production is generally expected to be between 120-130 mL/kg body weight per day.Excess thirst usually occurs as a result of excess urination, as the body responds to the loss of fluid and attempts to maintain the balance.
When the rabbit’s plasma fluids become highly concentrated, this activates the thirst mechanisms. Occasionally, excess urine occurs as the result of excess thirst. In this situation, blood plasma becomes very diluted because of the excessive water intake. This condition affects the kidney and the heart system.

The causes could be Renal (kidney) failure,Hepatic (liver) failure, drugs, diabetes, large quantities of sodium chloride.

It is imperative to continue providing water until the mechanism of the disease and the cause of it are clear and the appropriate medications can be prescribed.

Encourage plenty of oral fluid intake by offering your rabbit fresh water, wetting leafy vegetables, or flavoring water with vegetable juice. Offer a large selection of fresh, moistened greens such as cilantro, lettuce, parsley, carrot tops, spinach, collard greens, and good-quality grass hay instead of alfalfa hay. If your rabbit cannot or will not ingest enough food and water on its own to recover, you will need to maintain fluid levels and hydration by stomach tube feeding of water and nutrients.

If kidney stones were found to be the underlying cause, your veterinarian will instruct you to decrease calcium sources until the problem is resolved.

If bees and wasps attack humans is it wrong to kill them?

Yes, it is wrong to kill bees and wasps, even if they attack humans, because they form an important part of the food chain. Both are pollinators vital to our food chain. One third of the food we eat would not be available but for bees.

The harvest from honey bees of honey, pollen, wax and propolis has nutritional, craft, manufacturing, and medical applications.   In any case bees and wasps die when they sting human beings as their stingers become attached to the body they sting and break . So bees don’t attack unless they are severely provoked.   Leave them alone and they will leave you alone.

What about ants and insects at home - is it wrong to use insecticide on them?

Any insecticide has major repercussions for human beings. The insect may die but when the floor is washed and the insecticide is swept into the ground, it poisons all the area around the house.
And anything that can kill an insect can kill, and does kill  a human being . It also poisons the place so that all the beneficial insects and birds die. There are so many ways of keeping ants out of the house which are easy to do and harmless – haldi at the entrances for instance.
