Saradha case: CBI arrests TMC MP Srinjoy Bose

In a major development, the CBI arrested Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose on Friday in connection with the multi-crore rupee Saradha scam. ‘He has been arrested in connection with the Saradha scam,’ a CBI official said. Senior leader of the Trinamool Congress and MP Sougata Roy however dismissed this arrest as a setback for the party.
‘Srinjoy Bose was hardly an active party member. He is a media person. So I don’t think today’s development means any major trouble for the party in the state’, Roy told Millennium Post. Another TMC leader also alleged that the CBI had no credibility after its own director was removed from 2G scam investigations by the SC on Thursday.
However, Rajya Sabha member, Bose, arrived at the CBI office on Friday morning, following summons served on him to appear before the agency sleuths.State transport minister Madan Mitra, who was also asked to appear before the CBI in connection with the scam, was admitted to state-run SSKM Hospital on Thursday after a brief stay at a private clinic in the city. Bose became the third member of the TMC to be arrested in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam, in which lakhs of people were cheated out of their savings. Suspended TMC MP Kunal Ghosh was arrested last November and party vice president Rajat Majumdar, a former police officer, was arrested in August.
