SAIL’s production rose 8% in November

Steel production from plants of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) marked a growth of 8 per cent during November 2012 compared to the corresponding period last year (CPLY), with saleable steel production at 9.72 lakh tonnes. During April-November 2012, SAIL plants produced 8.2 million tonnes of saleable steel, a growth of 2.3 per cent over the same period of the previous year.
The major techno-economic parameters during April-November 2012 period fared better, with a 2 per cent improvement in coke rate and energy consumption and a 3 per cent improvement in BF productivity compared to the corresponding period last year .
Meanwhile, SAIL Chairman C S Verma paid a visit to IISCO Steel Plant (ISP), Burnpur, to accelerate of the progress of modernisation & expansion of the plant.
ISP has taken up a plan to expand annual production capacity to 2.5 million tonnes (mt) by installing of a greenfield, state-of-the-art integrated steel plant at at cost of Rs 16,400 crore.
This includes new finishing mills like Universal Heavy Section Mill, Wire Rod Mill and Bar Mill.
