SAIL’s modernised ISP dispatches first blooms consignment to Nepal

"The consignment amounting to 2,764 metric tonnes was flagged off from the West Yard in ISP. Steel produced by ISP conforms to stringent quality norms. This consignment is exported to Nepal for their urgent rehabilitation work after the massive <g data-gr-id="26">earth quake</g>," SAIL said in a statement here.
The blooms will be used for rolling out quake resistant TMT bars, it said adding, out of the total order of 2 <g data-gr-id="28">rakes</g> of 5,500 metric tonnes, this is the first consignment and the second will be dispatched in the first week of August.
Blooms are a semi-finished long product of greater than 150 mm square or rectangular cross-section and can be produced by continuous casting or by rolling from <g data-gr-id="35">ingot</g>. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently dedicated the modernised and expanded <g data-gr-id="27">IISCO</g> Steel Plant to the nation. The plant not only tripled its hot metal capacity from 0.85 to 2.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) but also ushered in a new era of green and <g data-gr-id="34">high quality</g> steelmaking, it said.
Soon after the stabilisation of its new and modernised units, ISP is fast catering to the needs of both national and international customers with its products. Earlier, SAIL had donated about 50 tonnes of GC Sheets to Nepal for their rehabilitation work through <g data-gr-id="32">Indian</g> embassy in Nepal.
SAIL's Rs 70,000 crore modernisation programme has been completed and it will increase the capacity of the domestic steel giant to 23 million <g data-gr-id="24">tonnaes</g> per <g data-gr-id="22">annum</g> (MTPA) by March next year.
