Safeguard the honest, civil servants body tells govt

A day after the prime minister’s office (PMO) clearly came out in support of the booked former coal secretary PC Parakh by saying that Manmohan Singh was ‘satisfied’ with the final decision that was ‘entirely appropriate’ and based ‘on the merits of the case placed before him’, central IAS officers’ association decided to approach highest authorities to ensure necessary safeguards for bureaucrats who make honest decisions.

Since last week several bureaucrats have come out in support of Parakh and Saturday’s PMO statement supporting Parakh added fuel to the fire. Parakh, along with industrialist KM Birla, has been booked by the CBI in Coalgate scam for corruption and conspiracy in allocation of Talabira II block to Hindalco Ltd.

The secretary of central IAS officers’ association, Sanjay R Bhoos Reddy, said, ‘We are going to give our representation at the highest level in the government. Officers who are honest and made honest decisions in public interest should not be hounded. Necessary safeguards need to be there.’
