As many as 11 leading Russian medical and engineering universities participated in an education fair held between 7-11 May at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture.

The fair aimed at informing students about the availability of options in Russia’s top universities and academies. Jointly organised by RUS Education & Russian Centre for Science & Culture, the event provided a direct and comprehensive overview of educational programmes in Russia, provided by government universities and academies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels respectively.

The fair aimed to promote Russian institutions as educational destinations for Indian high school graduates. These include the Tver State Medical Academy, Moscow Higher School of Economics, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, Kazan Federal University, Southern Federal University, Kuban State Technological University, National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University, Kazan State Medical University, Volgograd State Medical University, Orenburg State Medical Academy & Bashkir State Medical University.

‘Many Indian students who want to pursue their dream of learning engineering and medical from world class foreign universities are forced to give up their pursuit because of visa restrictions, expensive living and higher cost of education, as well as competition in securing admission in international universities. To help them overcome these glitches, Russian universities have come forward to offer a smooth admission process,’ said Fedor Rozovskiy, Director, Russian Centre of Science and Culture.

The cost of higher education in Russia is cheaper than most countries including US and UK. Russian as well as English medium of instructions are available there. Russian education system is duly recognized by the UN authorities as well as the Medical Councils of the world’s leading countries. UNESCO and WHO have always rated Russian medical universities at a higher pedigree.

Russian Medical Universities offer an M.D. degree, equivalent to M.B.B.S in India. The Medical Council of India recognises universities of Russia from Moscow, Volgograd, Kazan, Kursk and Tver. The duration of the medical course is six years in English medium and seven years in Russian medium respectively as one year intense preparatory-cum-preliminary study in Russian is undertaken by Russian medium students.
