Ruskin Bond, tribal artistes add colour to finale

A huge number of visitors from Delhi and NCR were seen searching for books of their choice on the last day of the New Delhi World Book Fair at Pragati Maidan on Sunday.
This year for the first time, the concept of Guest of Honour Country was introduced and France was given the status. Around 2,000 French titles were displayed at the French pavilion. Acclaimed French authors Tahar Ben Jelloun, Kènizè Mourad and Dominique Siguad interacted with book lovers at the fair.
Next year, Poland will be the Guest of Honour Country. The theme pavilion focused on folk and tribal literature attracted a large number of book lovers and literary personalities.
Several literary programmes including seminars, discussions and workshops were organised in which scholars and authors including Temsula Ao, Esther Syiem, K Anil Kumar, K C Kispotta, S C Soren, Mangal Marandi and U N Majhi participated.
As part of theme presentation, Desaj – festival of folk and tribal performing arts of India – was organised at Lal Chowk in association with Sangeet Natak Akademi.
A range of activities were organised at the Children and Youth pavilion, including workshops on storytelling, creative writing, skits and panel discussions.
On Sunday, a puppet show by Vikalp, an NGO, was organised at the pavilion. This show was conducted by Poorna Bhatt, a professional artist from Sahitya Natak Akademi.
A book release function was organised at Auditorium 2 in Hall No 18 by Madhyam Karayavan Nideshalaya, University of Delhi. Kesari Lal Verma, Subhash Kashyap and Jagdish Chandra Moon were the special guests on the occasion.

The other major features were Rights Table, Authors Corner, Book Art Exhibition, Souvenir Shops and Swami Vivekananda pavilion. Several literary programmes including book release functions, seminars and so on, organised by NBT and other publishers at the fair.
A series of movies from France were screened at Shakuntalam Theatre. The next New Delhi World Book Fair is scheduled to take place between 15-23 February 2014.
