‘Run awareness campaign to prevent fire incidents’

After major fire incidents in Delhi’s commercial districts of Connaught place and Chandni Chowk, the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung conducted a review meeting of Delhi Fire Services officials on Wednesday.

He also directed them to run awareness programmes extensively to prevent such incidents in future. Jung said that more field inspections of commercial complexes must be done by the fire officials and asked them to inspect all the traditional markets, including Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar and Karol Bagh markets.

In the meantime, fire officials stated that recruitment of trained staff to fill up the existing vacancies must be done swiftly. Of the sanctioned 3,100 personnel, the department currently has only 1,500 firemen.

Meanwhile, Jung also instructed the Tihar Jail officials to explore the possibility of setting up kiosks for sale of Tihar products in Connaught Place, Delhi Secretariat and Dilli Haats. This will further thrive the business of Tihar products, the L-G said.
