RTA demands fresh order to put mobile towers back in operation

The ongoing crisis deepens as the landlords denied to resume power supply to over 200 mobile towers, which have gone off air since Sunday last, despite the public notice issued by the Noida Authority, saying that for the next 15 days, no action would be taken against property owners who have installed mobile towers on the rooftops of their buildings. The landlords, however, have sought for a written “circular” by the authority.

The Resident’s Tower Association (RTA), which represents the cell phone tower landlords, said that they will not resume electricity to the off-air towers till the authority gives written assurance of not taking action against them. “As the authority had issued written notices to remove towers from residential units, we want a fresh order in written. Once we receive it, we will decide up on our future course of action,” said Satish Batra of the RTA. The authority officials, however, reiterated that they have asked the operators to submit the relaxations they require. They will then examine the possibilities. So far, no one has contacted them for a meeting.

The tower operators have claimed that the ongoing issue between the authority and the RTA has not yet been resolved, resulting in discontinued cellular services and inconvenience for the consumers in the area. “The industry is concerned as this ongoing issue has resulted in severe disruption of mobile services in the Noida area, causing inconvenience to both consumers and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) alike. Many complaints regarding consumers facing acute call drops and network
availability issues have been received by the Customer Care departments of the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).
