Despite the conservative elements within the Sangh Parivar gunning for finance minister Arun Jaitley for not doing away with the Congress-era policies and programmes, the mouthpiece of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Organiser has given a thumbs-up to the Union Budget. In its editorial, the Sangh’s weekly magazine has termed the general budget 2014 as a balancing act by the Narendra Modi government. The stand of Organiser comes as a boost for Jaitley, who is facing flak from another section of the RSS, especially its political wing, Swadeshi Jagaran Manch.
Going overboard in its appreciation, the magazine states, ‘Similar to the Trinity of Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver), and Shiva (the destroyer) that play an all encompassing role in balancing the shrishti (universe), the Union Budget 2014-15 makes a fervent pitch for attaining a balance by creating growth, preserving an ideal level of deficit, and destroying (supply side) inflation.’
In its latest 20 July edition, the RSS mouthpiece titles its editorial as — Sach, Much Acche Din (good days really). It says that Modi government rode on the slogan of ‘Acche din aane wale hain’ and created aspirations for hope and change among millions of Indians. Considering this, union budget 2014 was certainly expected to be a tangible roadmap for acche din.’
Appreciating Jaitley’s role as finance minister, the Organiser says ‘Arun Jaitley himself candidly accepted that he wanted to offer much more to the common man but the present state of the treasury did not allow him to do so. In any case, 45 days is not good enough time to work on any big ticket reforms. Still, the budget definitely reflects all the hard work put in by the finance minister and his team. No wonder that all opposition parties are taking a jibe at BJPs election slogan now.’
