RSS hits out at Rahul for linking it with Gandhi’s assassination

RSS lashed out at Congress party's vice president Rahul Gandhi, over his comments for holding the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) responsible for Mahatma Gandhi's assassination. The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked Rahul Gandhi to express his regret for his comments else he should be ready to face a defamation trial.

Sangh's National Spokesperson, Manmohan Vaidya, said: "The party had been consistently trying to spread lies and baseless allegations about RSS. Today's SC ruling has exposed the Congress."

"Why did you make a sweeping statement against the RSS, painting everyone associated with the organisation in the same brush," the Supreme Court asked Rahul Gandhi while hearing a defamation case filed against him. The apex court said that Rahul needs to prove ‘public good’ in his statement against Sangh and thus considered it as a matter of trial.

A bench of Justice Dipak Misra and R F Nariman refused Rahul's request for two-week adjournment and posted the matter for hearing on July 27. Rahul had moved the Supreme Court order in May 2015 for quashing the criminal case lodged against him for his comments against the RSS during a Thane rally in March 2014.

"RSS people killed Gandhiji and today their people (BJP) talk about him. They opposed Sardar Patel and Gandhiji," Rahul said while addressing a public rally in Thane district in March 2014.
