Rs 58L compensation to family of tutor killed in road mishap

A Delhi court has awarded Rs 58.66 lakh compensation to the family of a 28-year-old tutor who was killed in a road accident early this year. ‘Total compensation payable to the claimants would be Rs 58,66,875, which shall be payable with interest at 7.5 per cent per annum...,’ ruled Arun Bhardwaj, presiding officer of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal. The victim, Lalit, was hit by a rashly driven truck at Sohna Road, Gurgaon, in the afternoon of 24 January when he was riding a scooty. The truck had hit the scooty from the rear and due to the impact Lalit fell down and suffered multiple injuries. He was declared brought dead by the doctors at a Gurgaon hospital. The compensation was sought by Lalit’s wife, a minor daughter, aged parents, brothers and a sister. They told the court that Lalit was earning Rs 70,000 every month from private tutions and his income was gradually increasing. The tribunal directed insurance company Cholamandlum MS General, with which the offending truck was insured, to pay the compensation within 30 days.
