The Gurgaon Police booked three people for allegedly stealing the donation box – containing at least Rs 1.5 lakh kept inside a gurdwara in Gurgaon — in the wee hours of Thursday. The entire incident was caught in a CCTV footage installed in the gurdwara and a case has been filled by the gurdwara sevakar in the Sohna police station.
Police said that the incident took place at around 2 am when three accused broke open the gurdwara by breaking five different locks. All the three people had covered their faces with black cloths, which is why their identification may take some time, the police added.
“When I had left from the gurdwara, I made sure that I locked all the entry points carefully. I also remember locking the donation box, as it is my daily routine work,” said Jaibeer Singh, Sevakar of the gurdwara.
It was Singh who noticed that the entire place was in a mess and the donation box was wide open and empty, when he walked inside the gurdwara on Thursday early morning. There were coins scattered around the donation box and Rupees 1.5 lakh was missing from the box. The sevakar then filed a complaint in Sohna police station after which the police started investigating the matter.
Sources also reveal that the crime branch has also been involved in the investigation. The police are trying to investigate other people with criminal backgrounds to open different doors of the investigation.
Sources said that the Sohna police team had sent in finger print experts after which they have moved forward in their investigation.
The CCTV footage shows that the accused were there inside the gurdwara for almost 30 minutes and they used mobile torch lights to break open the lock of the donation box.
