Rs 10-lakh penalty on Ramdev’s pharma

The Uttar Pradesh Trade Tax Department has imposed a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on Patanjali Yoga Peeth for allegedly concealing tax on sale of goods.

The fine was slapped on Wednesday after Joint Commissioner P N Pandey assessed the tax at Rs 10 lakh seventy thousand on ayurvedic goods that were being sold here recently instead of Assam from where the sales permit was granted, Assistant Commissioner of trade tax, Sanjay Singh said.

A fortnight ago, a truck loaded with ayurvedic medicines and goods of the Patanjali brand, owned by the trust run by Ramdev, was intercepted by department officials and seized following which the action has been taken, he said.
