The Greater Noida Authority (GNIDA) has now earmarked Rs 10 crore for the facelift of the Surajpur Bird Sanctuary, a haven for migratory birds in winters.
The authority has given nod to develop eight new watchtowers, research centre, cycle track, a bird information centre and installation of benches for the visitors in the vicinity of the sanctuary. At present, there are only two watchtowers in the sanctuary and eight new watchtowers are expected to be raised in the next two years for convenience of visitors.
Spread across 330 hectares of land, the bird sanctuary is too big to be covered by feet. Hence a cycle track is decided to be developed to make it easy for the visitors to take the rounds and save their time. The GNIDA had started the project in 2009 when it had inked an agreement with the World Wildlife Fund and UP government to upgrade the bird sanctuary.
