Rs 1 lakh for info on Meerut 'road rage' case

On Tuesday, Delhi police announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh to anyone who could provide information on the alleged Meerut road rage case, in which one of its constables was shot dead and another received injuries.

Delhi Police Commissioner announced the cash reward to anyone who may give information that would help the police trace the criminals or render any help to arrest the unknown accused persons involved in the case, a senior police official said.

Head constable Sanjeev was shot dead and a constable suffered bullet injuries when unidentified men opened fire at them in Meerut on 15 May in an incident which Delhi police described as a case of road rage.

Earlier this month, Joint Commissioner of Police, Vivek Gogia, and other senior officials went to Meerut and met their counterparts in UP police. Gogia had said UP police and Delhi police were on the same page in the incident and there was no confusion over it. There were reports that Meerut police was not buying Delhi police theory that it was a case of road rage.

Sanjeev's family had alleged that he was not killed in a road rage incident and pointed fingers at his two colleagues who were travelling with him at the time of the incident.

'We have our doubts. We have filed a complaint with Meerut police asking them to investigate the role of two policemen who were accompanying Sanjeev at the time of the incident,' Kavinder, the brother-in-law of Sanjeev, had said.
