Roof collapse kills minor, injures 3

The roof of an adjoining house fell on the tin shed of a two-storeyed house in the Walled City leaving a two-and-a-half-year-old girl dead and a four-year-old girl severely injured on late Sunday night. The deceased girl has been identified as Mantaza.

According to senior police officers, the incident took place at around 10.30 pm in the Pipalwal wali gali in Motia Khan when the roof of the house fell. A family of labourers was injured. In the collapse, Mantaza died while the other girl Kahkasha received a fracture on her leg. 

Eyewitnesses made a PCR call after which the both the children were rushed to LNJP hospital where Mantaza was declared brought dead while Kahkasha is undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the other injured persons have been identified as Mukhtiyar (29) and his wife, Chandni (25).

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Aslam Khan said: “A case has been registered under Sections 288 (Negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings), 304 A (causing death due to negligence) and 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC at the Sadar Bazaar police station.”

Meanwhile police are trying to trace the owner of the building. Further investigation is underway.

Rain brings down old post office’s balcony in Chandni Chowk
Rain accompanied by thunderstorm led to the collapse of the balcony of a 100-year-old post office building situated in Chandni Chowk area of North Delhi on Sunday night. Meanwhile, senior police officers confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. According to the fire department officials, the incident took place at around 11.30 pm when a part of the balcony fell down in which six to seven cars were damaged. Two to three fire tenders were rushed to the spot while 2 QRTs of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority were also present at the spot. According to the police, one PCR van was rushed to the spot. On the other hand, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
