Police are looking for the domestic help of the 68-year-old retired Income Tax official, who was found dead at her residence in Rohini on Wednesday. The victim’s hands and legs were bound and the house was ransacked.
During investigation, police found that the victim, Gurjeet Kaur Puri, was staying alone in the house. She had employed two domestic helps, in shifts. One of them, Nandani, had been employed just 15 days ago and has been missing ever since the incident was reported.
A security guard in the area told police that Nandini was seen coming out of the house with two more persons in the afternoon. When the other domestic help came to the house, she found Kaur dead. Kaur was sitting on a chair, hands and legs bound with a rope and mouth sealed with tape.
A video footage of the suspect has been procured from a shop where the was employed before coming to Kaur. She was also working at some other places, and had disclosed her name as Sonia or Sonu.
According to Inderpal Grover, daughter of the deceased, Nandani wanted to buy off an old sofa from her mother. ‘On 12 September, she (Nandani) called my mother and said she was coming with her husband to take away the sofa,’ she said.
‘There is strong apprehension that the maid servant who was engaged two weeks ago committed this heinous crime for the purpose of robbery,’ said M A Rizvi, additional deputy commissioner of police (Outer).
Kaur’s husband Jasbir Singh died four years ago. Of her three children, a son lives in the US while two daughters live in east Delhi. All of them are married.
Kaur was living alone at her house in Rohini Sector 8.
