Robbers held after police encounter in Civil Lines

With the arrest of four alleged robbers after an encounter at North Delhi’s Civil Lines area, the police claim to have busted an inter-state gang of robbers. One police inspector and a constable reportedly sustained injuries during the encounter, police said on Monday.

The accused were identified as Deepak (26), Dheer Singh (33), Ashok <g data-gr-id="26">Pahelwan</g> (35) and Ravi (26). 
Dheer Singh had also allegedly raped a minor girl at Vijay Vihar area in <g data-gr-id="31">outer</g> district and opened fire on the police during an encounter in 2012. 

The same gang had also committed an alleged robbery at <g data-gr-id="28">Hyderabad in</g> April 21, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).

The police received a tip-off that the same gang would come to commit a robbery near Civil Lines area on May 16 and laid a trap. 

The gang approached the spot in a car and when they were intercepted, one of them fired two shots at a police official and the driver tried to crush the police team with the vehicle. 

A police constable also fired at the car and finally the gang was overpowered by the police team, said Yadav.

During interrogation, the accused told the cops that they had a network of their own which collected inputs on their behalf and they executed robberies in Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. 

“Investigation of the case is in progress and other crimes committed by them are being verified,” Yadav added.
