Road rage: Drunken men assault family

In yet another incident of road rage, a group of drunken men allegedly assaulted a family, who were travelling in a Hyundai Accent car along West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area, late on Sunday night. The accused persons managed an easy escape despite locals trying to nab them.

The incident took place when the victim’s family was returning to their residence in West Delhi. They were going towards Tilak Marg but mid-way when they reached Uttam Nagar metro station, a Mahindra Xylo hit their car from behind and an argument broke out.

According to police, when the Xylo car rammed into victim’s car from behind, both car stopped on the road and the driver of the Accent car came out in anger. He advised the driver of Xylo to drive properly, on which the driver got annoyed. “There were four occupants in Xylo car who were under the influence of alcohol,” the victim told the police.

The argument turned violent when all four occupants came out of their car and thrashed him. When his family members including three female intervened, they too were thrashed. They also broke the glass and smashed the car with iron rods, which they were carrying.

Two of them molested the women that drew the attention of the passersby, who stopped to help the women. “When the locals also intervened, all of them escaped and are still absconding,” a police official said.

The victims allegedly approached a nearby patrolling PCR van with the photo of the car and details of the registration number but in vain. Later, they made a PCR call, after which a police team reached the spot. In the meantime, the victims along with locals staged a protest and shouted slogans against Delhi Police for their reluctant behaviour.

A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Bindapur Police station and investigation is on. “We are looking at the CCTV footage and are trying to establish the identities of the accused.

“Also, a man-hunt is on following the registration number of the car,” the official added.
