A 58-year-old man, who suffered multiple fractures and other injuries after being hit by a motorcycle, has been awarded Rs 3.44 lakhs as compensation by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
Presiding Officer Arun Bhardwaj ordered IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Company Ltd, with which the offending vehicle was insured, to pay the sum.
‘Total compensation payable to the petitioner would be Rs 3,44,916...Let compensation be deposited by insurance company within 30 days,’ the judge said. The tribunal’s order came on a complaint by south west Delhi resident Vishnu Sharma who had claimed that he was hit by a rashly-driven motorcycle on 15 December 2010 night while crossing road near Sector 7 in Dwarka in Delhi. He was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he was found to have sustained chest injuries and multiple fractures in ribs and ankle in the accident, he said. Rajeev Ranjan Singh, the motorcyclist, told the court that the accident had taken place due to Sharma’s negligence.
The tribunal, however, rejected his contention and awarded the compensation, taking note of the charge-sheet filed by police.
