Road accident victim gets around Rs 12-lakh compensation

A 42-year-old man, who was injured while travelling in a rashly-driven bus, has been awarded a compensation of around Rs 12 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT).

MACT Presiding Officer Manish Gupta directed National Insurance Co Ltd, insurer of the offending bus, to pay Rs 11,70,788 to West Delhi resident Mohan Jha, who suffered 88 per cent permanent disability in his right hand in the accident in April, 2007. "I award a compensation of Rs 11,70,788...in favour of the petitioner (Jha) and against the respondents (firm)," the tribunal said.
