Rising veggie prices dwarf Modi’s poll promises

Prices of essential commodities like mustard oil, pulses, flour and eggs have shot up while prices of petrol and diesel are falling since Modi became the Prime Minister. Crude oil price have lessened by more than half now, in comparison to the time of UPA government. Currently, crude oil price is $50 per barrel, while during UPA regime, it was $110 per barrel.

Now, Delhi consumers are paying the maximum price ever for moong, masoor, urad, mustard oil and eggs etc. Retail prices of pulses range from Rs 110 to Rs 80. A kg of moong sells at Rs 110, masoor at Rs 80 per kg, urad at Rs 85 per kg and arhar for Rs 80 per kg.

Also, other kinds of commodities like rice, flour, mustard oil are costlier now than during the UPA regime.

Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay claims that overall prices of essential commodities have reduced and it will lead to improving the state of the economy which was left in a shattered state due to mismanagement, bad governance and corruption by the previous Congress-led-UPA govt.

For the prices of edible items shooting up, some senior BJP leaders give lame excuses of failing monsoon and that the deficient rains will lead to inevitable shortfall in kharif production of lentils.

Former Congress leader Haroon Yusuf slammed the Modi government, who came to power on the promise of taming inflation, but even after seven months of his governance, the situation is all the same.
