Rio Ferdinand announces retirement

Rio Ferdinand has announced his retirement from professional football. The former Manchester United and England defender, 36, finished his long and illustrious career at QPR. He suffered heartbreak after his wife Rebecca died from cancer at the age of 34.
His statement read: “After 18 years as a professional footballer, I now feel it’s the right time for me to retire from the game that I love.
