Reviving literature

On July 16 the Akademi organized a 'Indo-Nepali Writers' Meet' at the Sahitya Akademi auditorium, Rabindra Bhavan, in the national Capital. The Nepali delegation comprised of Dr Bishnu Bhibhu Ghimire, Prof Hemanga Raj Adhikari, Prof Usha Thakur, Prof Gyanu Pandey, MatrikaPookhrel, Hem NathPoudel and Laxmi Sharma Gautam.
A large number of eminent Indian writers such as Prof Indra Nath Choudhuri, Sri Manglesh Dabral, Prof Awdhesh Kumar Singh, Varsha Das, Suresh Rituparna, Chandramohan and Dr. Vanita, participated in the programme.
Dr K. Sreenivasarao, Secretary, Sahitya Akademi, welcomed the delegation and introduced them to their Indian counterparts and audience. He also enumerated the details of literary exchange programmes between Sahitya Akademi and Nepali Writers' Associations.
The Nepali writers elaborated on the status of Nepali literature at the present times, the successes, euphoria and failures and challenges facing Nepali literature. Each speaker provided different dimension to the issues at hand.
Several Indian authors present expressed happiness in knowing that Nepali literature doing well and also highlighted areas that need improvement. A brief interactive session followed. Dr Sreenivasarao proposed a vote of thanks.
