Reverse journeys till ITO annoy Metro commuters

The reason is that an overwhelming number of passengers do not deboard at Mandi House and travel all the way to ITO to ensure a seat.
The Delhi Metro’s drive to check such reverse journeys also seems to have petered out of late. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had initially announced a penalty of Rs 200 on commuters violating the rule.
But monitoring of the situation for an extended period made it apparent that such drives are rare and have completely failed to stop the practice, leading to complaints by people, who board the metro at ITO.
Even announcements at the station and inside trains warning commuters of fine, which was done regularly at one point after the launch of the extension of the Violet Line till ITO, have been done way with, a passenger said.
“People who take the traian from ITO are mostly office- goers and for them, to be greeted by a train full of passengers, not deboarding, is quite annoying,” said Tanyaa Sharma, a marketing executive.
“The Delhi Metro should strengthen its drive till it launches the extension till Kashmere Gate,” she added.
A DMRC spokesperson said: “The Metro conducts drives and randomly keeps checking to look into such issues.”
ITO is the last station to have been launched individually on June 8 last year. The entire Mandi House- Kashmere Gate, 9.37-km ‘heritage corridor’, is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
