Revenge whiff in Ggn shootout, one dead

The incident led to a stampede-like situation on the busy road – with a series of shopping malls on both sides, auto stands and several spots where office goers wait for cabs – which is quite crowded even in the morning hours.

Sitting inside the targeted SUV was Rakesh Yadav – the prime accused in the murder case of the Sarpanch of Hayatpur village, which let to a series of killings, around four years ago. Yadav (40) has as many as 16 criminal cases registered against him in connection with murder, attempted murder, robbery and illegal possession of arms in both Delhi and Haryana, said a police official.

According to the police, the incident was reported around 8.45 am, when Yadav was reportedly on his way to a city court, sitting on the back seat of his Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. When Yadav’s car moved past the main gate of Baverly Park I apartment complex on Gurgaon’s MG Road and headed towards IFFCO Chowk, around four men opened fire on the vehicle. The assailants were suspected to be hiding somewhere near the spot waiting for Yadav to arrive.

To save himself, Yadav jumped out of the moving SUV and took shelter at the complex of Times Tower in MG Road. After Yadav jumped off, his driver, Hansraj, lost control over the vehicle and brushed past an auto rickshaw. The SUV then swerved further left and rammed into the divider. The SUV finally overturned, crashing another autorickshaw under it.

By then, the four assailants boarded a Hyundai Santro car parked nearby and fled the scene. A huge police team was rushed to the spot immediately and the area cordoned off. MG Road then witnessed long tailbacks for hours until the damaged SUV and crushed autorickshaw were cleared, said a police official.

An auto-rickshaw driver, who had nothing to do with the suspected revenge attack, was found dead after the mayhem. He was later identified as Kapil Dang, a resident of Shakti Nagar area in Gurgaon. Dang sustained a bullet injury and was declared dead on being rushed to a hospital. Yadav’s driver, Hansraj, suffered a bullet injury on his head. He was rushed to a hospital, where he had to undergo a surgery.
