Revenge, lust for money behind Mayur Vihar murder and abduction, says police

Five days after the brutal murder of a woman followed by the kidnapping for ransom of her three-year-old son, police claims to have solved the case with the arrest of two persons. A man-hunt is on to nab the third accused.

Ajay Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (east) said, 'The motive behind the murder, robbery and kidnapping was the desire to make some quick money.' On Saturday morning, a 29-year-old woman was choked to death at her house in Mayur Vihar Phase III. The house had been found to be ransacked and the deceased's three-year-old son had been kidnapped for ransom. The victim’s body was found lying on bed, with a telephone cord wound around  her neck. Inamullah, the victim’s husband and an east-Delhi  businessman had reportedly been at his garment shop in the Kondli area at the time of the incident when her maid Beena informed him about the crime. Even as he rushed home, he received a ransom call. The abductors used his wife’s mobile to call him and demanded Rs 50 lakh from the businessman in exchange of his son, Ishu.

Kumar added, 'Technical revealed the location of  the culprits to be western Uttar Pradesh. The name of an ex-employee of Inamullah, Vijay, emerged in connection with the crime. It was learnt that Vijay's associate was also involved. On Sunday the culprits were tracked to Haridwar and Ishu was rescued from them.'

During the raid, two police officials, including a sub-inspector and a constable received severe injuries, after being attacked by the two accused. A case of attempt-to-murder was lodged at the Kotwali police station in Haridwar. The two arrested persons were identified as Digvijay alias Vijay and Sachin alias Monu.

During interrogation, it was revealed that out of the two accused, Vijay was a salesman at a mobile shop of the deceased's husband but he lost his job when the businessman closed down the shop to open his garment shop. This made him angry and he wanted revenge. Also, since Inamullah had spent Rs 60-65 lakh on the new shop, Digvijay had hoped to find cash at the businessman’s residence. Digvijay, Sachin and Keshav (who is still absconding) hatched a conspiracy to rob Inamullah and kidnap his son for ransom.

The investigating team has recovered 10 mobile phones, stolen jewellery, sharped-edge weapon, injection syringe and chloroform from the arrested. A clean chit has been given to Inamullah and the maid Beena, who had been  present at the house at the time of the crime.
