Hundreds of retired teachers and non-teaching staff of Delhi University staged a ‘satyagraha’ in alliance with Delhi University Teacher’s Association (DUTA) at the Ministry Of Human Resource, Shastri Bhawan, on Friday to protest against the arbitrary denial of pension by university Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh.
“This is just a vindictive way with which V-C Dinesh Singh is trying to get back at us for our role played in rolling back of the proposed curriculum. This decision is being used as a ploy to hold up pensions of retiring teachers and non-teaching staff who had earlier been granted pension schemes,” said Nandita Narain, DUTA president.
The teachers claim that they have not been given their pensions since the roll-back of Four Year Under Graduate Program (FYUP). In August 2014, after the FYUP roll back, Delhi University authorities took an U-turn on their earlier decision to grant pension in accordance with the judgement of the high court and instead decided to challenge the court order.
The protesters demanded that the HRD Ministry must instruct the V-C to withdraw <g data-gr-id="18">malicious</g> anti-teacher appeal in court, and clear all dues of the retiring teachers and other <g data-gr-id="14">non teaching</g> staff appointed before January 1, 1986.
