Retd IAS officer killed in freak accident

A 62-year-old retired IAS officer was killed in a road accident at Mahipalpur flyover in South Delhi on Monday evening while repairing his car at the roadside. The identity of the errant driver is yet to be ascertained.
The victim has been identified as Arjun Kumar Jain, who is a resident of Gurgaon. He was returning home with his daughter in his black Hyundai car. Mid-way, when they reached near Mahipalpur flyover, Jain noticed some problem in his car. He along with his daughter got down from the car after parking it at the roadside. According to police, to repair his car, he sat on the road and few minutes later a speeding car, most probably a hatchback, hit him and dragged him few metres. The driver immediately managed to flee from the spot, whereas other vehicles coming from behind stopped to help him.
He was rushed to the nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The doctors told police that he received several internal injuries that lead to his death. His daughter, however, remained safe in the accident as she was standing at the other side of the car. After the post-mortem examination, his body has been handed over to his family and a case against unknown person has been registered. Further investigation is underway, said the senior police officials.
