Restoration of biodiversity: Experts refuse to buy the idea

Even as NGT has asked the Art of Living Foundation to restore the area after the event and convert it into a biodiversity zone, the environmentalists in the city do not seem satisfied with the idea that the area can be restored in its original form and have stated that a lot of damage has already been done which would further worsen due to the on-going World Cultural Festival.

Speaking to Millennium Post Manoj Mishra who petitioned against the event in the NGT mentioned that the area consisted of vital flora and fauna which has now been destroyed due to the massive preparation for the event.

Mishra said that because of levelling of the area by heavy rollers and devices the shrubs, reptiles, insects and the bird population of the area will be adversely affected. Mishra also stated that how by providing clearances to this event the agencies especially the DDA actually did not follow the NGT order issued on January 13, 2015 which had mentioned of the biodiversity significance and sensitivity of Yamuna in the city and had asked for steps to secure the biodiversity of the river in the city.
