‘Rescue’ bid fails, criminals sent to help under-trial mate held

Four men have been arrested for trying to help notorious criminal Vikas Langarpuria, who is being tried in a murder case, escape while being produced at the Dwarka court on Monday. The arrested quartet, as well as Langarpuria belong to a group of criminals that go by the name of the Neeraj Gang. Three country-made automatic .32 bore pistols and eighteen live cartridges have been recovered from their possession. One Swift VDI car has also been seized.

One of the four accused is history-sheeter (one with a criminal record) at the Jahangirpuri police station and is also an externee from Delhi under orders of the Additional DCP North-West.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police busted the gang while they were trying to rescue under-trial prisoner,  Vikas Laggarpuria, a fellow member of the Neeraj Bawana Gang.

The Anti Auto Theft Squad, Crime Branch received information that an armed group of criminals from the Neeraj Bawana Gang would be coming to Dwarka Court to help Laggarpuria to escape while he was being produced in court.

Acting on this information, a team of police personnel was constituted. The Crime Branch team laid a trap near the mmain gate of the Dwarka Court. At about 11.30 am, a Swift VDI car, bearing the license plate no. DL 3C CS 0111, was seen on the service road opposite the Dwarka Court. There were four people inside the car.

'The Crime Branch team  showed them their I-cards and asked them to submit for a formal search. Suddenly, one person who was sitting beside the driver, came out of the car, with a loaded pistol in his right hand, and tried to fire at one of the officials, HC Dilbagh Singh,' a police officer said.

In the meantime, two people who had been sitting at the back, too came out with loaded pistols and tried to escape, while pointing the firearms at the officials. The four were  however, easily apprehended and three country-made automatic .32 bore pistols and eighteen live cartridges were recovered from them and and the VDI Swift car seized.

According to the police officials, each of the four in the team had been assigned a specific role in the great escape bid. The driver of the car was to remain in his seat and keep the vehicle running so that they could make a speedy retreat. Two others, Pankaj and Nizam, were to go our and fire if any one tried to stop the rescue operation. The fourth, Pahlwan,  was to go inside the court premises and meet Laggarpuria and signal to him to run by saying they had been sent by Neeraj Bhai to meet him.

The plan was that Vikas would push away the constables escorting him and run to the car parked outside the main gate of the Dwarka Court. 'However they could not succeed in their plan because of the prompt action taken by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police,' said a police official.
