Renuka Chowdhury hits back at Sushma Swaraj

On Tuesday Renuka Chowdhary, member of parliament, Rajyasabha addressed the media to reply to Sushma Swaraj’s allegation that the Congress President provoked members and she has no faith in the democratic set-up.

Chowdhury said, ‘It is a very unfortunate and uncharitable accusation being made at Sonia Gandhi. In a Parliamentary democracy it is for each individual to take accountability and responsibility, and conduct oneself in those parameters’.

She  added,  ‘We have to function in a democracy and if this is an excuse to boycott parliamentary proceeding then they should look for other excuses. It’s regrettable that a senior leader like Sushma Swaraj is talking like this’.

While replying no the Bharatiya Janata Party bringing a no confidence motion, Chowdhury said, ‘We have passed this test on a number of occasions and it is our effort that the opposition works with us’.

On the question of the SC observation on the coal report Chowdhury said, ‘The Congress  party  will go by whatever the highest court of the country has said. It has been our tradition that we do not comment on what the court has said and we very humbly accept what they have said’.

On the court’s decision to acquit Sajjan Kumar in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, Chowdhury said that the ‘court has taken a decision and acquitted Sajjan Kumar and we don’t want to comment on that. We respect the court and whatever they have said’.
