Renovated Kashmere Gate ISBT likely to open on 2 May

The Delhi government's special purpose vehicle, the  Delhi integrated multi model transit system(DIMTS), aimed to provide word-class facilities at the the inter state bus Terminal (ISBT), Kashmere Gate is set for inauguration on 2 May. The chief minister’s office said that Sheila Dikshit will inaugurate the new renovated ISBT.

Work  started in July, 2011. The interim period has resulted in harassment for commuters, who had to go to other inter-state terminals, such as Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan for buses.

DIMTS officials say that the ISBT has been renovated on the pattern of the IGI airport.

The arrival and departure bays have been redesigned to make them passenger-friendly. The bus circulation plan has been modified and ticket counters have been improved with enquiry booths to help passengers.

The renovated bus terminal will offer air-conditioned waiting lounge to the passengers,  and include glass elevators and escalators.

The terminal-has also been installed with public information systems (PIS) to display information information on the the buses and building management systems.

DIMTs officials said that any passenger entering the ISBT terminal from the Kashmere Gate Metro, won’t feel a change in environment.

For security, the entire terminal has been installed with door frame metal detectors and CCTV camera and the building has been made earthquake secure.

The other facilities for passengers include clean drinking water, a sewerage treatment plant and LCD and LED screens at the spacious  waiting lounge.

Transport officials said that ‘the cost of this part of the project is Rs 75 crore.  Around 2000 buses usually operate from the Kashmere Gate ISBT.
