Remove ‘multiplicity’ of authorities in city: Sheila urges Rahul

Pitching for a single command structure in the national capital, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit today urged Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to solve the issue as a multiplicity of commands caused confusion and delayed developmental work.

Dikshit also told Rahul that 13 lakh people in Delhi had given their signatures to a vow that they wanted Congress and Rahul to lead them.

‘People see in you the future... What Delhi does today, other states (of the country) follow tomorrow,’ she said, underlining the growing demand within the party for the naming of Rahul as the Congress prime ministerial candidate for the Lok Sabha polls next year.

Talking about the work done by her government, Dikshit cited the example of the regularisation of unauthorised colonies, which she said had taken four years to achieve.

‘It would not have taken that long had the command (structure) been single,’ the chief minister said.

The Congress rally was held at Mangolpuri at a ground adjacent to one such colony, which was authorised by the Congress government. The unauthorised colonies are considered to be traditional vote banks of Congress.

In January this year, Delhi government had given its in- principle nod for the regularisation of over 200 unauthorised colonies in the national capital of Delhi to pave the way for their development on a par with the other areas of the city.

‘There are a number of authorities here, the government, municipal corporations, NDMC, lieutenant governor among others.

‘Multiplicity of commands causes complexity and leads to confusion. If there is one command, this problem can be solved.

‘I urge Rahul Gandhiji to work for the redressal of the problem,’ Sheila Dikshit said at the Mangolpuri rally here.
