‘Remove CM’s photos from loan application forms’

President Pranab Mukherjee, accepting the recommendation of Delhi Lokayukta, has issued a direction for the removal of the photographs of Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit and her colleague Raj Kumar Chauhan from the loan application forms provided to applicants of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes categories.

These application forms were sold by the department which comes under the ministry of finance and development corporation of Delhi government.
‘The department need not print the photographs of Delhi chief minister and minister Raj Kumar Chauhan and advised the corporation to be more careful in the future,’ observed the President in his advisory.

The Delhi government, under its scheme Dilli Swarozgar Yojana in August 2012 had issued application forms in which coloured passport size pictures of Dikshit and minister Chauhan were published. These forms were sold for Rs 100 each. Earlier, the forms were sold free of cost.
After the matter came to light, senior BJP leader and former Delhi BJP president Harshvardhan filed a case before Delhi Lokyukta.

The Lokayukta, Manmohan Sarin, had recommended the President to issue an advisory to the chief minister and her colleagues.
‘The advisory vindicates our argument that Delhi chief minster Sheila Dikshit and her colleagues are engaged in misuse of power through various means,’ said Harshvardhan.

He alleged that the printing of photographs was intended to get on edge in the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections by forming an image in the minds of the voters.
‘There are several cases when Dikshit and her colleagues have misused their power and public fund to influence people and engage in corrupt practices,’ added Harshvardhan.
