Relief for Amar Singh, court dismisses criminal complaint

All the accused were alleged for kidnapping a key witness of the 2008 cash for vote case. Metropolitan Magistrate Jay Thareja has dismissed the complaint filed by Hasmat Ali, who is one of the prime witnesses in the cash-for-vote scam case, saying testimony of the complainant was unbelievable as it was not corroborated by any independent witnesses. The court said, ‘In my view the testimony of the complainant, Hasmat Ali is unbelievable because it is not corroborated by any independent witness. Therefore, his sole testimony is being discredited. In view of the aforesaid, the complaint is dismissed under section 203 of CrPC’.

The decision came just two months after the former SP leader was given a clean chit by a court in the cash-for-vote case in which Singh was accused of bribing some MPs ahead of a confidence vote in Lok Sabha on 22 July, 2008.
