Released from Tihar, youth stabbed to death

A 25-year-old youth, who was released from Tihar jail last month, was found stabbed to death and dumped in a drain in south east Delhi’s Okhla on Sunday morning. Police suspects that he was killed over personal enmity.

The deceased has been identified as Abu Fareed, a resident of Abul Fazal Enclave in Jamia Nagar, who was missing since Saturday evening. A police official said that they had received a call at the police control room at around 11 am on Sunday reporting that a body was floating in a drain of Okhla Industrial Area Phase-III.

‘The body was later fished out and taken to All India Institute of Medical Sciences [AIIMS],’ said a senior police officer.

Initial medical examination has revealed that Abu was stabbed at least 10 times with a sharp edged weapon. Cops believe that Abu was attacked late on Saturday night, but denied robbery or snatching being one of the motives.

There was some cash and documents in Abu’s pockets, which led to police ruling out robbery as a motive. The recovered documents also helped cops identify him and inform his father Habibullah about the incident.

‘Habibullah later identified the body at AIIMS mortuary,’ the official added.

Police investigation has also revealed that Abu has a criminal record and was released from Tihar Prisons last month. It is believed that he may have been attacked by criminals whom he met at the jail or rivals before being jailed.
