Registration of 25 traders cancelled

‘The action was taken after conducting raids in various parts of the city in which forged documents were seized. We will continue such raids to curb tax evasion,’ said Sanjiv Khirwar, Commissioner, trade and taxes of Delhi government.

The enforcement branch of the department had conducted several raids during last week against bogus dealers. ‘During the investigation, the documents presented by 25 dealers were found to be bogus who had collectively declared turnover of Rs 389.79 crores in 2013-14,’ added Khirwar. The department has also disallowed Input Tax Credit (ITC) of Rs 5.85 crores during this week.

The commissioner has directed the enforcement wing to intensify raids to detect the chain of sale of such dealers and take strict action as per the provision of DVAT Act, 2004. The bogus documents were a clear case of misuse of simplification of VAT system in which online facility was provided to file the annual returns. In the process digitally signed registration certificates had been sent on line.

Khirwar added that the department is committed to simplify the process but simultaneously strict action will be taken against violators.
