A year has passed since the victim, a lawyer, filed a rape case against a colleague she used to live with, and the accused has now been granted bail by the Delhi high court. Fearing for her life after the court’s judgment, the rape victim attempted suicide.
More than a year ago, the advocate accused her live-in partner of rape on the pretext of marriage. On the basis of her complaint registered at Vasant Vihar police station, the accused in his late twenties was apprehended and sent to judicial custody.
Recently, on Tuesday the accused managed to get bail from the high court and was released from the jail. On receiving this information, she went to her brother’s residence in Daryaganj and told him about his release. Meanwhile, in a state of depression, she consumed sleeping pills at her brother’s residence and came out of the house. She then hired an auto-rickshaw to drop her to Vasant Vihar police station.
Just few kilometres from the police station in south Delhi, she fell unconscious in the auto-rickshaw. She was immediately rushed to the Safdarjung hospital where she underwent treatment and is now out of danger.
‘She told police that she had feared that the accused, who remained in jail for more than a year, would definitely take revenge. Undergoing such fear, she committed suicide. Later on Wednesday morning she met the top brass of the Delhi police, after which a complaint was registered against her for attempted suicide’, the official added.
